Fifty Is Five Perfect Tens

Finishing my 50th Year Around the Sun

My 50th birthday came and went in a fairly low-key manor.  I mentioned it in my last blog, so I won't go into detail again, but it was a perfect night out with a few of my favorite people. The cupcakes were literally the icing on the cake! <3

Starting my 51st year of life has proved to be better than last year, but still not the most fun. On February 9th, I met with the Radiologist and he said everything it good, he will see me in about a year. YAY!  Everytime a doctor says more than three weeks, I get excited!

The weekend of February 17-19 was a road trip to Tulsa, OK.  There was a group of crafters/tumbler makers getting together for a weekend event at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.  Robert agreed to go, and after we were on the road, I realized why.  A couple of stops in Springfield at Bss Pro and then at Grizzly was on his agenda.  He was like a kid in a candy store. Once we got to the hotel, he was able to keep himself occupied while I attended the event during the day.  At night, he went to the afterparty with me.  It gave him another look inside my strange crafting world.

I don't have it in me to tell you how rough the ride home on Sunday ended up being.  The short story is, sometime Saturday night, I got so sick.  I think it had to be food poisoning, because whatever was in me, needed to be out!  It was the longest night and then ride home of my life.  It was really a rough week in general.  But, I made it through!  I had my infusion on Wednesday and it was actually ash Wednesday, so I was able to recieve my ashes.

Almost forgot about having a booth at the Ste. Genevieve Memorial Hospital Women's Health Fair.  But, I put it together for the following weekend. It wasn't as stocked as some of the events I have done, but I had fun and Josie was working the table next to me.  I also won one of the grand prizes (it was cash,) so GO ME!

Check out this rhinestone cup I mad for a challenge during the month of February.  She is so pretty!  I really wish pictures did it justice.

March 6th was surgery day for my knee.  He went in and repaired my torn meniscus, then he cleaned up all the mess that was causing so much pain.  I'm just so glad there was something to repair!  I was trying to convince people that this wasn't just "getting old" pain.  I knew it was different and once we had the MRI, we knew there was light at the end of the tunnel.  I am still feeling some pain, but it is so much better than it was before surgery.

Celebrated my Grandma's 93rd birthday on Saturday, March 25th.  Got to see some family that I never get to see.  Grandma was her spunky self and I think she had a great time watching us all.  She has such a sweet tooth!  You would be amazed at the amount of candy she got!  I asked her if she realized I was 50, and I'm not sure she knew what to think about that!

Sunday, April 2nd was spent at the Busch Stadium enjoying some opening weekend baseball.  Three homeruns in the first inning, signaled for a great game ahead!  It was a beautiful day to be out and about.

March 10 was the day I recieved the diagnosis.
My first chemo treatment was exactly one year ago today (April 6th.)  I really can't believe it has been a year!  Here is a throwback picture and hair update.  If it weren't for my glasses, I wouldn't think I was the same person.

Headed into a long weekend!  Have a blessed Easter everyone!

A few things to note:

  • I will try to update this blog at least a couple of more times.
  • I only have one more infusion on April 26th.
  • The short and grey hair is not helping me to NOT feel 50!
  • Knee is continuing to heal up!  Having a temporary handicap tag is kind of conveinient! (It really does help though!)
  • Won't have to see the oncologist for three months, now! YAY
  • Mamogram is scheduled for April 27th.
  • We don't have to wear masks in the cancer center anymore!
  • I'm always off on Fridays.  Hit me up if you want to grab lunch or something!
  • I will keep the Amazon link open until I am finished with the infusionsClick here for link.  Venmo is @ricki-roth / Paypal is paypal.me/RickiR or ricki.roth@gmail.com / Cash App is $rickiroth (Posting those makes me feel greedy, but it does cost a lot to do all of the running around.  Even though I am pretty much done, I do have to pay down some of the credit I used during that time.  Please never feel obligated to send absolutely anything.  Insurance has been very good to me through all of this.)
Thank you all for joining me on this ride!  I appreciate you all!

Ricki
