Staying Busy
Prepping for the Next Phase
Back to School
Monday, August 22 through Tuesday, September 6th
This is a busier time at work. So, the time went by rather quickly. The first week was a little rough being the first week after chemo, but I have a great support system at work and they make it easier to get through the day to day operations.
We were blessed with watching the grand-ferrets for the Labor Day weekend. They are so entertaining. Every picture I took of them was blurry, so these were provided by Robert:
Tuesday, August 30th
Robert and I met with the surgeon. She is open to whatever I choose to do, but I asked her what her thoughts would be and she said she would seriously consider the lumpectomy. Nothing is a guarantee, but the lumpectomy is so much more less invasive and the recovery time is a lot less. The type of cancer was very rare and with little to no indicators that I am suceptible to breast cancer, it is probably the route to go. She wants to do some updated tests since the last ones were done on July 1, so we scheduled those for next week. As long as everything is the same or smaller, we will plan to continue with the lumpectomy.
The Longest Day
Wednesday, September 7th
10:15am Mammogram
11:00am Ultrasound
2:45pm Blood Work
3:15pm Oncologist
4:00pm Chest X-ray
Basically, waited in five different waiting rooms (that is very hard on your phone battery!) Started with mammogram and then ultrasound in Ballwin. Had lunch with Robert and then headed to Festus to meet with oncologist. Had blood work before my appointment with him and then went for a chest x-ray.
Everything is still good and shrinking, so we are still on target for a lumpectomy. I still have to talk to the surgeon again to get that scheduled. I probably won't see my oncologist again until after surgery. We scheduled an appointment for 6 months out. He was still worried about my cough, so he sent me for a chest x-ray. Thankfully, it was all clear
Last Day of Chemo
Friday, September 9th
Sandy went with me for my very last day of chemo. The session was pretty uneventful. Tried to see and talk to most nurses since I probably won't get to see them again. The walk out was very exciting and getting to ring the bell felt so good! Here is a video of the big event:
My surgeon's office called later on in the day and we were able to get surgery scheduled for October 12th. There will be a lot to do that day, so I will break it down later on. (It is actually on Izzy's birthday, so it will be a unique way to celebrate!)
On Wednesday, September 14th, we had a lunch to say goodbye to my boss. Luckily, we will keep in touch. Afterall, she doesn't live too far from me! It was a cooler day, so I broke out one of my wigs. It only make it through lunch time and then back to a hat I went!
A Weekend in Baseball Heaven
Friday, September 16 and Saturday, September 17
I was invited to a Cardinals baseball game with some of my favorite girls on Friday night! Amy took Sandy, Nicki and I to the AT&T Rooftop section for an all-inclusive great time. We were able to see Albert hit homerun number 698! Here's hoping he gets to 700 very soon!
On Saturday, I was invited to go with Izzy to watch the day game in a suite. Two days of all-inclusive baseball life is making me feel a little spoiled. Even though Albert didn't get another homerun that day, we did get to see Molina hit one. Well, I was in the inside stuffing my face when it happened, but I still saw it on TV! LOL!
A few things to note:
- Chemo is over!
- Surgery is scheduled for October 12th.
- Ringing the bell was a lot more satifying than I thought it would be.
- I decided to try something new for my Amazon link. This is a registry that shouldn't expire. (I still never figured out why the original always went bad.) Click here for link.
Thank you all for joining me on this ride! I appreciate you all!
Ricki
