Going Through the Motions

Chemo Day 7 and The Wig

May 20th

Robert was with me for the chemo session.  All went very uneventful.  Snagged a private room almost by accident.  It was going to be a shorter session, so the nurse knew I could be finished before the next patient arrived.  Afterwards, we went to The Country Cafe for lunch and then decided to take the scenic route home.  While we were driving, I recieved a call from Image Choices that my wig was ready.  We made a quick stop at home and then headed to pick it up.

Once again, it was a very quick appointment.  We snagged up a few extra accessories and cleaning/conditioning products and were on our way.  I set it up at home to help it relax a bit and left it alone for a couple of days.  Everytime I looked at it, I thought it was too intimidating to attempt to try to wear or even just put it on my head.

Apparently, I forgot to take a selfie, so here is a pic from almost the same day.

Happy Graduation, Melissa

May 22nd

We were able to celebrate my God Daughter's graduation from college on Sunday.  It was at Llywelyn's Pub in Webster Groves.  She is going to do great things in Texas and we will miss her so much!

Chemo Day 8

May 27th

Chemo day went off without a hitch.  My friend, Ashley was off on Friday, so we made a date to spend the day together.  It had been so long since we were able to catch up so we stayed chatty for the whole time.  We started with breakfast at Bread Co. (this might be getting to be a habit.)  Then after chemo we went to lunch at Pasta House.  It was a very good day!

Memorial Day Weekend

May 26th - 30th

Memorial Day Weekend has always been a mini vacation of sorts for our family.  Even during years when we couldn't afford a big vacation, we always found a way to go camping. (Even though, I am fairly certain it costs almost as much money to go live like a homeless person for one long weekend.)

I knew I wouldn't be camping overnight, but the campsite/lake is only about 45is minutes from our hours.  So, on Saturday and Sunday I went down to spend the day with the family.  Over the years, more and more of the Roth family has been able to join us for the weekend.  It is so much fun to watch the kiddos play in the lake and/or creek.  The "tent life" is so much easier for the young ones!  I think I am in need of a camper very soon.  "Glamping" is more of my style.  If only Robert would get on board with the idea.  He still loves the "tent life."

Chemo Day 9

June 2nd

My sister, Christi, was my chemo buddy victim for the week.  Once again treatment was very uneventful and that is always a good thing.  No private room, but we were still able to get in some great conversation and share some much needed time together.  At one point, she showed me a video that made be burst out in laughter.  Not really good when you are trying to be quiet in a big room.  It still makes me chuckle when I think about it.

Sister!

Afterwards we went to Red Lobster for lunch and then over to the vinyl store in South County.  It really wasn't on my agenda, but she needed a few things and I can't pass up a trip to a craft store!  They had just come out with a few things I wanted anyway.  Long story short, I spent more time in the store than she did.  Guess I really did need the trip!

Wedding Celebration

Tim and Marissa are part of our GFI (Robert's work) family.  I have known Tim since about 2006 and he was always one of those guy friends you want to help find his forever love.  We joked about finding him someone for years!  He finally almost relented one day and told me I might be able to soon help him in the relationship departement.  BUT HOLD UP!  The next time we spoke, he told me he might not need any help and some cryptic indication that something great was happening.  Low and behold, Tim and Marissa (also part of our GFI family) were soon an item.  Everyone was so happy for them.  Tim moved to Jeff City and they got married.  We weren't able to go to the wedding, so when I recieved the invitation to a reception in Festus, I immediately sent in our RSVP.

Turns out, it was a fishing trip weekend for Robert, so I took Sandy as my date.  We spent the evening catching up with a few of my favorite people.  It was a great night!

Chemo Brain

When people talk about chemo brain, know that it really is a thing!  I can't tell you how many times I have even confused myself.  Simple things like, making a bowl of cereal, can almost seem confusing.  I find myself having to stop and think things through that should be second nature.  Yesterday, I went back into the house three times to get things I was forgetting.  Distractions really throw me for a loop.  I thought I had a lot of  "squirrel" moments before, it is nothing compared to this.  I am sure some of it is due to a lack of sleep, which in turn just keeps me tired, but it is frustrating.  Once again, I am so thankful for my support system.

The Wig(s)

A few things to note:

  • Robert is gone next week for a fishing trip.
  • My Mom is having surgery on Monday.  You won't see this until afterwards.  Just know that it went well and she will soon be back home.
  • I don't really like "wig life" and I probably won't wear it very often.
  • I am still doing well.  Tired, but good.
  • The next blog will have a very eventful week!  Stay tuned for some good/crazy story time!
  • I finally put my diagnosis out on Facebook for the world to see.  I figure it can't be hidden now that my hair is pretty much gone and I would rather people just know than speculate.
  • I didn't come up with a song for this week.  Maybe next time.
  • I have heard that sometimes my Amazon link expires.  Let me know if this doesn't open for you:  Amazon
Thank you for being a great support system!
