Murphy's Law Sort of Week
Just Keeping Things Exciting
Hubby Away / Mom's Surgery / Busted Pressure Tank
June 3rd through 10th
You might remember from the last blog, Robert is still out of town on a fishing trip. I always know that ONE bad thing is going to happen while he is away. He must get at least one frantic phone call to help me fix something or just calm me down.
There was a lot on the table for this week, but we had back up plans on top of back up plans. Mom was scheduled for surgery on Monday morning. I won't get into the details of all of that, just know that we were to be at Barnes bright and early on Monday. We are all very small town people, and driving to Barnes is nerve wracking just thinking about it, but we would be fine. Sandy was going with us, as well. Since Robert was out of town, she came for some extra needed support for the day. Some might remember that when mom had surgery three years ago, she decided to take a two month nap afterwards. That just added one more level of uneasiness for the day.
Let's backtrack just a few hours into the middle of the night. I don't sleep well lately, but I was snoozing fairly good when Seth came knocking at me door at about 3am Monday morning. He heard a noise in the basement. I walked out of my room and just thought it was raining really hard, but the closer I got to the basement stairs, the more I realized something was really wrong. The pressure tank had sprung a leak. Now, when I say a leak it was more of a shower all over the corner of the basement. Who knows when it actually started. It was actually good that Seth woke up and heard it because I wouldn't have known at all from my side of the house.
I called Robert and got him alert enough to talk. He gave me instuctions for the breaker boxes and the water line into the house. It was stopped. I was drenched. I moved a few things around and then headed back upstairs to dry off and try to sleep for a little bit longer. That really didn't work out so well. With the combination of the adrenaline and then knowing we had to leave soon, my brain wouldn't let me go back to sleep. It was just going to have to be a long day.
My saving grace was knowing my ONE bad thing was over (well, not over, but being taken care of.) Izzy was coming over to get the mess cleaned up and my brother-in-law, Mike, was coming to replace the tank. It would all be better by the time I got back home. Since the bad was over, I knew in my heart of hearts that mom's surgery would go well. I don't know that everyone else had my positive attitude, but that didn't matter. It kept me moving forward! She woke up just fine and when they asked her if she knew where she was, she said, "earth!" and everything was right in the world again.
Chemo Day 10
June 10th
Day number 10 went off without a hitch. Sandy went with me and worked from her corner of the room while I got my treatment. We were really tired though, because we went to the opening night showing of Jurassic World Dominion (great movie!) the night before. It made for a late night, but I have really decided sleep is overrated and we don't really need it afterall.
I made this cup for one of my favorite nurses. I missed her birthday the previous week.
Robert made it home that night and we went out to Red Lobster for dinner. I was just so relieved to have him back. We didn't do much else that weekend. I worked in the craft room and he went down to work around the farm/lake.
Cardinal's Game (In the green seats!)
June 13th
A day to never forget! Our friend Amy treated me and Sandy to a Cards game in the green seats! It just happened to fall in a heat wave. So, I had to spend the first three quarters of the game inside. But, I did go outside to watch the last couple of innings!
Chemo Day 11
June 17th
Day number 11 went almost just like the previous week. Sandy was along for the day and we went to Bread Co. before heading over to the cancer center. The actual treatment felt a little rough for some reason. One of the medications really made me feel off, but the flushed feeling passed once the next drug was started. Since we only have one more week of this drug combo, hopefully it doesn't get worse next week.
